Hi Svetla

I usually just cover any small weeds with manure and then dig it in later in the winter (or even early Spring); the layer of manure on top kills any young weeks by starving them of light.

I am a big believer in the digging and manuring. My husband always pitches in, my plot is smaller and it is not such a big chore. However, this year I am experimenting with just pulling the weeds and spreading manure. What do you think?

Psss. I dug up the last row of spuds and harvested my beans for drying today, so you're ahead of me!

Thanks for kind words, everyone, but it's pretty pathetic. Really must do better.

Rachael: Celeriac a disaster. Tiny roots because it's been SO dry here, and I couldn't face watering every night for three months. Gave up. Some of the plants even bolted – incredible. I've never seen that before in celeriac.

How about yours?

Looks good to me, if you'd done it quicker you'd be skimping on something (like pulling out the weeds frist). Well done!

Well it may not seem like much but it certainly looks like a job well done - that patch looks luscious!
P.S. How's your celeriac?

It can be soul destroying when you look back at what you've done and it doesn't represent the hours you've spent doing it. I think you've done a great job though.
