For Autumn fruiting raspberries, I'd recommend the newish variety Polka (cf Autumn bliss). They are vigorous and produce nice big fruits with a good flavour (IMHO).

"Is this your intention?"

No, SM, but it's already stretching the limit of my technical ability...

And as for the canes, its what's going on under the soil level that counts. Yes they are an autumn (primocane) variety so I am hopeful of picking fruit before the year is out!!?!!?

Is it raspberries or a row of sticks, Mal?!?!?

Did you know that commenting on your blog is very restricted? Only folks on Blogger or Wordpress or other recognised platforms can leave a comment. Is this your intention?

Mal's Allotment Says:

Couldn’t resist posting a pic of my new raspberry canes, SM.

I’m not gloating though because my broad beans and shallots missed the deadline before the big freeze arrived!

Raspberries are fine to be planted at this time of year. I'd like to get some on my plot but it's frozen solid at the moment.

If I'd done half that I'd be crowing about it!

Go plant those Raspberries... now... before you start maoning about the soil being frozen solid.

Have fun chosing your crops for 2010

It's fine to plant raspberries at this time of the year as long as the ground isn't frozen. Oh you have to have raspberries they were my favourite thing last year! Well done you for the hard work, looking good x
