Back in the shit

Er… hello? Is there anyone there?

Sorry. Haven’t been here for a while. Ahem. Life got on top of me, rather. Too much to do, too little time. It happens.

New year’s resolution: Less waffling, less ranting, more gardening. Goddammit. And you can quote me on that when I next go off on one.

Today’s back-to-the-plot task was emptying the compost bin and spreading manure and compost on the plot. I love doing this. It’s hard work, but that earthy smell of shit and fresh compost (year-old vintage) is wildly stimulating. Makes me think of all the fantastic vegetables I’ll be growing later in the year.

It’s not far off now. The grim short days are lengthening, and soon I’ll be moaning about running out of time. Actually, who needs ‘soon’? I am running out of time. Curses.

Good to see you back Soilman…even better is to see you back and talking about gardening…now lets see how well you do at keeping it up!!

Got my muck spreading to get done yet….hopefully this week!

I always like to hear other people being as enthusiastic about their compost as I am. Mine is on a smaller scale but I poke at it obsessively and get my neighbour (male) round to pee in it regularly.

I wondered if you might add your allotment to Folia the online gardening website (it’s free). I’m always looking to encourage more gardeners to join and am having an extra push this week while the weather is keeping most people indoors.

It’s a great resource for gardeners and has helped me keep on top of my 800+ plantings with photo’s, notes, journals, milestones etc. They have an extensive plant wiki and a seed stash section where people can also list seeds for swapping. Here’s the link to my Folia page so you can see how it works:

4 220 litre compost bins arrived today.

    The engine room is ready!

Looking forward to spreading that lot on the land in 9 months time!

Looking at that bare earth makes me wonder if I should be planting stuff or not today. Garlic could go in, or I could chop up firewood instead. After your enthusiasm, maybe the garlic will win.

Welcome back there’s nothing like shovelling a good pile of shit!

    Hi Soilman,

Just checking out some of my old blog reads. I moved last year and the Cazaux days are over. Have recently started recreating my veg patch in my back garden and could do with some of your pearls of wisdom from time to time while I get things back up and running.

Here’s looking forward to some dry days over the coming weekends or Ill be visiting the vegetable isles of our not so local supermarket for longer than I would have hoped

Yes, Kevin, I have. Was moaning about precisely this to the long-suffering Mrs Soilman only last night.

My potato order has gone up in price by about 30% since last year: shocking.

  9. Freelance Unbound Says:

Welcome back Soilman, you bundle of joy.

You remind me that I should really try to prise open my enthusiasm and start blogging again. Before the month is out and I can’t get away with a “new year” post…
